Name: Jim Bernard Age: 18 Family: Mum (Margret Bernard) Tools: Pan and Shovel Successful: Poor Year: 1852 Orgin: USA Personality: Respectful and kind July 1852 Hello my name is Jim Bernard. I was born in America and I’m still living there, I’m 18 years of age and my Mother Margret is 47 years of age, my Father died when I was 4 years of age. I have been very poor all my life; my clothes are old hand-me-downs from my cousins. I live in little house with two beds. July 1852
It was a humid afternoon I was walking on a sandy, rocky ground with my Mother, I heard a lot of noise from the newsstand news just broke in, gold fever had just broke in Australia Mother and I had no time to waste we quickly packed all our items and went to the nearest boat. The boat was packed full of people probably more than I expected. We were one of the last people on the boat, the boat took off, I felt the rush of excitement down my spine. October 1852
It’s been three since I arrived on the boat. I was sleeping in my cabin and I felt a sudden stop and I woke up. The sailor said “We have arrived in Ballarat”. I felt so much excitement jumping through my body. The authorities quickly checked us for any pocket knives and guns. Fortunatally I was all clear and so was my Mother. From where the boat stopped Mother and I walked from there till the we reached the Ballarat Goldfields. I had the greatest feeling walking through the gates of the Ballarat Goldfields.
October 1852 As I walked in the Ballarat Goldfields I had a mix of emotions going through me right now. I bought my tools which were a pan and a shovel but last but not least I bought myself a miners licsence. I decided not to mine today because because its been a long day. Im going to start my debut as a goldigger tommorow.
October 1852 As I went to sleep on my stretcher I imagined what would I do with my first nugget I found, should I buy a house or spend it on food, but i will just do the mature thing at the end of the day. As I woke up this morning I heard galloping. I was guessing a gold digger was going for a nice stroll on his horse, but I had to pull myself together I couldn't lose more time before the mines were full. It took about 20 minutes too get my stuff out of my tent, I walked quietly out of my tent so I wouldn't wake mother up
